Jamie Oliver has really inspired me with his 'Food Revolution' series. IT IS time to get excited about food again. I am relatively new transplant to Richmond but I think it is one of the best places to be to enjoy local produce and fish. You already know what is available in your grocery store so I don't have to tell you. I want to highlight some of the places that are off the beaten path. It's time to make a day of it with the family and help them understand where their food comes from.
If you watched Jamie Oliver's series, you saw that the kindergarteners couldn't even identify a tomato or a potato for that matter. If you asked them what a french fry was, they got it right away. There is something very wrong with that.....
I also want to share some great recipes for $5 and $10 that can feed your whole family. From scratch can be cheaper than buying fast food or prepackaged meals for your family. I also have some great recipes for foods you have never tried and new spins on the foods your mother tried to make you eat.
Call it a Food Revolution or a Slow Food Movement, I don't care. It's time to start bringing fresh cooking back into your home. We have moved too far away from cooking from scratch but it is a lot easier than you think.
I look forward to local participation if you stumble across my blog.
First up - a trip to Gloucester, VA.
